Net Impact London Professional (NILP) with the support of London Business School’s Energy Markets Group is delighted to host a timely discussion event at the Regents Park campus on 1 October 2009.

People – See the latest salary survey research from Acre Resources, one of the UK’s leading recruitment agencies for climate and sustainability-related organisations.

Projects – Hear the UK government’s position on the resourcing of international carbon reduction projects

Capital – Discuss the mechanisms for financing low carbon growth in an environment of perceived investor caution

NILP has been running a monthly speaker event covering sustainability and social enterprise topics since 2006. This event is the second in NILP’s Expert Track of speaker events, directed towards attendees with deeper experience of specific markets and industries, but which fulfils Net Impact’s mission to inspire, educate, and equip individuals for global impacts.

Speakers include:

Chris Dodwell – Head of Energy and Climate Change International Strategy, Department for Energy and Climate Change

Andy Cartland – Managing Director, Acre Resources

Kevin Brennan – Commercial Operations Manager, Natsource

Geoff Sinclair – Global Head of Carbon Sales and Trading, Standard Bank

Henry Derwent – President and CEO, International Emissions Trading Association (moderator).

Speakers will be addressing the following questions:

The efficacy of carbon emissions reductions from project-based mechanisms has come under criticism, how do we overcome the practical barriers to the expansion of the number and impact of projects, particularly in “hard to reach” territories?

How can the flow of capital to projects be significantly increased?

Who are the right people to engage the decision makers, find the projects, structure the finance and operate the new technologies/systems?

At the close of the event, Net Impact will compile the discussion into a document which will be made available to all attendees. Net Impact will present any recommendations from the event to policy makers, financial regulators or training/professional bodies as appropriate.

Refreshments will be provided by kind sponsorship of London Business School

Audience: Senior Policy & Finance Professionals (including attendees of the London Business School / Point Carbon course Carbon Finance and Analytics), Carbon Entrepreneurs

Invited Organisations: Acre Resources, Camco; Carbon Clear; Carbon Trust; Chicago Climate Exchange, Climate Bridge; Climate Change Capital; DECC; European Climate Exchange; Generation Investment Management; Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute; International Emissions Trading Association; Standard Bank; Masdar; Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment; UK Social Investment Forum and others.

NB – This event is one of Net Impact London Professional’s in-depth discussions of more complex/technical issues.  As such, the intended audience is a limited number of senior professionals already involved in carbon resource management.   As such we have  selected invitees according to the contribution we believe they can make to the three main issues described above.  If you would like to attend, please send a 200-word description of your professional background and the contribution you would like to make to london.

Net Impact London Professional is delighted to have been awarded “Gold Chapter” status.

In conferring this honour, Net Impact Central recognises NI London Professional as “characterized by energetic members, dynamic leadership, and excellence in all that they do. They also go above and beyond minimum requirements to actively give back to the network by sharing best pratices, mentoring other chapters, and working with Net Impact Central to improve chapter offerings.”

There are over 200 chapters in the NI network, but only three other professional groups outside the US received this recognition:  Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; and Pune, India.

This is a high standard and one which we encourage London-based members to hold us to, as we develop our annual programme in 2009-10.    And put the word out to the market – you don’t need to invest in bullion to be exposed to Gold!

If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP by 23 November by clicking here

Net Impact members and supporters have asked to hear from more speakers with experience of applying sustainable business thinking in a large-scale corporate setting. In November we’re pleased to be able to introduce you to a speaker who is dealing with our current economic challenges, up and down a global retail value chain.

Estimates of the length and depth of the economic downturn in the UK vary. As most of the UK population’s day-to-day economic decisions take place behind a shopping trolley or at a checkout, the supermarket, as much as the trading floor, becomes the testing ground for issues of market confidence. For the people running the supermarkets, as uncertainty persists, infrastructure investment, supplier support programmes and a host of other initiatives come under careful scrutiny. Across the sector, business leaders are assessing the contribution of CR programmes to making that relationship with the shopping trolley decision-maker stronger and more rewarding.

Jat Sahota is one of these leaders. Jat’s background is in commercial operations, having spent two years as Head of Fruit at Sainsbury’s. Prior to this he held senior marketing and commercial roles at Heinz UK and Safeway Plc. We look forward to hearing his insights and learning from his wide ranging experience in UK retail.

Net Impact London Professional would like to extend out thanks to URS for sponsoring this event.

If you wish to come to this event you must RSVP to london - spaces are limited and you will not be let into the venue otherwise!

The London Net Impact Professional Chapter is pleased to invite you to the latest event in our speaker series.  The session will be presented by Andy Cartland, one of the founders of Acre Resources, the best known specialist recruitment company in CSR and Climate Change.  Andy will be accompanied by Acre’s Senior CSR Consultant Rufus Bullough. Andy has seen Acre grow from a company which advertised “green” jobs for a handful of specialist companies to one which is responding to the demand from the world’s largest companies for leading talent across the globe. Rufus is a Senior Consultant in the CSR and Sustainability team at Acre. He has worked in the community investment and clean technology sectors of CSR for the past five years and has witnessed the increasing demand for sustainable leadership and talent in this space. In partnership with Sustainability Consultancy Acona and the well known publication Ethical Performance, Acre collected and analysed data provided by leading UK CSR practitioners as part of a pioneering study.

Such data had never been analysed on this level before and the report has given an insight into how the UK CSR job market looks at present.  The results included brand new information on salaries, role specialisms, the gender gap and the backgrounds from which people move into CSR.

We’re delighted that they can join Net Impact to present the findings and help us think through some of the implications.

We also look forward to hosting a group of MBA student visitors from the Carlson School of Management (Minnesota University), fresh from a field tour of Europe, where they’ve been talking to senior sustainability professionals across a variety of sectors.  We hope the Carlson students will give us an additional cross-cultural insight into the career situation outside of the UK.

Please remember, if you wish to attend RSVP to london

Hear John talk about the work he is doing with peers at competitive companies to make real change possible in global FMCG supply chains.
